A Mankato man known for his quiet service and unwavering support of local youth just got a big surprise: a free furnace, fully installed, thanks to Schwickert’s Tecta America and Bryant Heating & Cooling’s Community Heroes program.
Jim Weart, a longtime mentor through the Mankato Family YMCA’s Brother/Sister Program, was nominated by YMCA Director of Social Responsibility, Tom Schueneman, for the lasting impact he’s made in the lives of our local youth. His story stood out among the nominations and became the first winner of this newly revived program.
“For Schwickert’s, supporting the communities we serve is a core value of ours. Bringing the Community Heroes program to Mankato was something we jumped at” said Connor Tanhoff, Marketing Manager at Schwickert’s. “This whole Community Heroes program is about recognizing those who make Mankato a better place. Jim’s story stood out, and we’re proud to honor him for the impact he’s had.”
“Jim is someone who puts the needs of others before his own, driven by a genuine desire to help,” said Schueneman. “His actions create a positive ripple effect throughout Mankato. Whether it’s being a volunteer mentor with the Mankato Family YMCA Brother/Sister Program, volunteering his time for local charity events, or offering a helping hand to a senior with yard work in his role at VINE Faith in Action, Jim is always there. He’s not just a participant, he’s a catalyst for good, giving back to the community.”
After a site visit to confirm installation logistics, Schwickert’s made it official. Jim and his wife were overjoyed when they got the call—especially when they learned the furnace was being installed at no cost.
The install was completed in a single day in June, and a small award ceremony is being held at the Mankato YMCA on July 16th at 1:00 to honor Jim’s years of service.
“This wasn’t just about a new furnace, it was about showing appreciation for someone who’s made a difference in our community for years.” said Tony Frost, Residential HVAC Department Manager at Schwickert’s.
Schwickert’s says they plan to continue the Community Heroes program annually, bringing recognition and support to more unsung community members.
