Mankato YMCA Developing Reopening Plans

Published On: May 12, 2020Categories: Uncategorized
The staff at Mankato Family YMCA has begun the process of developing a reopening plan with guidance from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, the Minnesota Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control. While no opening date has been announced, the YMCA staff is excited and diligently preparing for reopening as soon as permission is granted and preparations are finished.

The top priority regarding the reopening will be a commitment to providing a safe and healthy environment for staff, members, and the community. The Mankato YMCA staff are actively working with the national YMCA network and the local public health office to plan sanitizing schedules, proper social distancing of exercise equipment, restructuring member use and flow of the facility, and making decisions on areas and activities that will be able to be safely opened within the Y. Additionally, conversations surrounding summer YMCA programming such as camp, youth sports, swimming lessons and more, continue to take place.

John Kind, Executive Director empathizes with the challenge for members, staff and the community with the uncertainty of an opening date. “We want to thank those of you that have been able to stay with us a members, supporting our community work through child care, making wellness check-ins with our senior members via phone calls, and providing virtual wellness options to help keep all active, even while our doors are closed.”

Timelines and strategic reopening details are in development and will be communicated to members and the community through our website, via email and social media channels as plans become definite.
