The Mankato Family YMCA Mini Marlins is a group created for non-competitive swimmers looking to join the swim team. Complete freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke along with competitive starts and streamlining is introduced at this level. Learning these competitive strokes is a goal for swimmers in this group. Some Butterfly basics will also be introduced. While there is a heavy emphasis on technique, there is also a large emphasis on having fun and enjoying the sport.
Prerequisites: Complete a Guppy level I program or have a basic knowledge of Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breaststroke. Eligible swimmers should be able to swim the length of the pool using freestyle and backstroke without assistance and be comfortable with their heads/faces in and under the water.
Ages: This program is designed with the 5-10 age group in mind.
Practices: Two, one-hour practices are offered per week with no minimum attendance requirements.
Meets: There will be a Mini Meet at the beginning and end of each season to gauge the swimmers progress. These swimmers will be eligible for participation in Marlins Home Swim Meets at the discretion of the Head Swimming Coach and the desire of the swimmer.
