Youth in Government – Grades 8-12
Join youth leaders from around the state to debate the issues that are important to you. Listen to delegates with different experiences. Research public issues and become aware of local, state, national and international concerns. Accept your civic responsibilities and your leadership role. Get involved in the decision making process . . . and have fun the whole time.
Youth interested must complete an application which can be obtained by calling 345-9817. Be sure to visit the State of Minnesota Youth In Government site.
Model United Nations (grades 8-12)
Model United Nations encourages youth, grades 8-12, to view issues through a total global perspective. Delegations of students select a country of their choice, prepare issue papers, working papers, and topic research to be presented at the Model Assembly. The program focuses its attention on the United Nations’ committee process. For more information call 345-9817.
Youth Voice in Local Government (Grades 9-12)
Youth are now given the opportunity to have a voice in local government by becoming voting members on local boards and committees of the City of Mankato, City of North Mankato, Blue Earth County, Nicollet County and Mankato Public Schools. Youth who are interested must complete an application which can be obtained by calling Cheryl Hamond 345-9809.
Youth must be:
* a resident of the city, county, or school district in which they are applying to serve.
* prepared to commit to a one-year term and meet the attendance requirements set by the particular committee.
